Gunnerside Village Hall is located in the heart of Gunnerside, in Upper Swaledale. Originally known as the Literary Institute, the hall was built in the 1860s and became a registered charity in 1940. In 2023, it transitioned to an Incorporated Charitable Organisation (CIO).
The Village Hall hosts a wide range of activities for both the local community and visitors. Regular events include afternoon teas, coffee mornings, a shopping club, knit and natter sessions, yoga, adult ballet, the Thursday Ladies' Club and craft classes.
In addition, the hall is available for hire by individuals and organisations for events, activities, and exhibitions.
In December 2025, we launched the Gunnerside Village Hall 100 Club to great support from the community.
For £5 a ticket, you are entered into a monthly draw (usually the 1st Sunday of the month) to win a cash prize. You are then re-entered the following month.
The money this raises helps us maintain the Hall to ensure a thriving community hub for Gunnerside and the surrounding villages.
